Bike for Breath

On World Asthma Day, the Eber family flew from Washington D.C. to Athens to begin a 16 month cycling journey around the world to raise funds and awareness for asthma and clean air. Paula and Lorenz pedaled on two tandems with their daughters Anya (age 13) and Yvonne (age 11), camping for most of the trip. On their journey, they crossed over the Alps and the Rocky Mountains, passed through Siberia and the Gobi Desert, and pedaled through a snowstorm, an earthquake and a tornado, among other adventures. 480 days later, they returned to Washington D.C. having pedaled a complete circle around the world by bicycle, raising $65,000 for clean air and asthma. All fundraising proceeds went to the 501-c-3 non-profit foundation, World Bike for Breath. Visit the original World Bike for Breath website to learn more.

Today, the issues that inspired the Eber family to cycle across four continents and 24 countries around the world have become even more critical. Many of us have suddenly realized the importance of clean air as we battle smoke filled skies each summer—the result of rampant forest fires and climate change.  Meanwhile, asthma is on the rise; and is suspected to be a causal factor in Covid-19 deaths.

Bike for Breath’s goal is to encourage everyone—and especially families with children– to make our world a better place to breathe: providing resources, education, events and inspirational stories of how to travel by bicycle– whether to the grocery store with your kids, or across the globe.

Bike for Breath is a business with a social purpose: to inspire people to travel by bicycle, promoting clean air and a healthy environment so that all of us can breathe.
